What Book You Should Read This Winter Based on Your Zodiac Sign

books

Aries Heading link

one of us is lying

One Of Us Is Lying – Karen M. McManus

  • This YA Breakfast Club-inspired novel tells the story of five high schoolers who all end up in detention and only four students walk out alive. Investigators say the death wasn’t an accident, and everyone is a suspect. This story is filled with twists and turns, and you’ll second guess who you think the murderer is every other page if you’re like me. When I first read this, I couldn’t put it down till I was finished. Try and see if you can solve this contemporary YA murder mystery.

Taurus Heading link

the happiness project

The Happiness Project – Gretchen Rubin

  • Gretchen Rubin wrote this book after an epiphany she had that she should be living a happier life. In this book she documents her journey to bettering her life and being happier. According to Rubin, this motivational and well-written book is meant to be more than a story; it is meant to be a movement.

Gemini Heading link

the wedding date

The Wedding Date – Jasmine Guillory

  • The classic trope of a fake relationship is what this story is all about. But it goes the extra mile with excellent writing and a plot that won’t let you set down the book until you’re done reading. The novel is witty, romantic, and definitely swoon-worthy. The characters are well developed and the story was definitely one of the most anticipated reads on my TBR (to-be-read) list. A must-read for rom-com lovers.

Cancer Heading link

finding audrey

Finding Audrey – Sophie Kinsella

  • Audrey deals with a lot of mental health issues that come into conflict with her day-to-day life at school, social situations, and even at home. One day, she finally meets a friend named Linus who she can feel comfortable around. She must face the challenges of balancing her friendship with overcoming her personal mental health issues. This story tugged on my heart-strings the first time I read it, and I plan on reading it again this winter.

emergency contact

Emergency Contact – Mary H.K. Choi

  • This YA novel tells the story of two awkward high school graduates crossing paths as they enter college. They swap numbers and text each other, and the rom-com begins. The characters in this novel were so real and vulnerable, I fell in love with them. This book is perfect for any fans of simple teen romcoms like To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before.

Virgo Heading link

room

Room – Emma Donoghue

  • A mother and son are held captive in a room for almost a decade. To the young boy, this room is his whole world and is all he has ever known. Eventually, they escape and discover the world they have not seen for so many years. This novel shows the bravery and bond between a mother and her son, and their journey to find themselves again. This is definitely in my top books of all time, and I believe everyone should read it at least once.

Libra Heading link

the handmaid's tale

The Handmaid’s Tale – Margaret Atwood

  • This book is widely known for the television series remake on Hulu, but in my opinion, the book is much better because of the changing perspectives and excellent writing. This dystopian novel touches on subjects such as rebellion, feminism, equality, gender, power, and religion. In this dystopian world, women have no rights and are stripped from their identity. The main character, Offred, risks it all and breaks the world to try to end this oppression. Definitely one of my favorite reads of all time.

Scorpio Heading link

all the missing girls

All The Missing Girls – Megan Miranda

  • A girl goes back to her hometown, where one of her good friends was murdered a decade before. When she gets there, she comes to find out that another murder has taken place. This story is told backwards, from day 15 to day 1. The suspense and drama will leave you on the edge of your seat and unable to put the book down until you reach the ending. This book was on my most anticipated reads, and it definitely lived up to the hype.

Sagittarius Heading link

puddin

Puddin’ – Julie Murphy

  • A story of an overweight, witty, unpopular girl and a pretty girl who is dance-team captain crossing paths and finding much more in common than they ever would have thought. The unexpected friendship leads to much more than they would have imagined. This humorous and heartwarming story is an easy read, but definitely not one to skip over.

Capricorn Heading link

toni morrison

The Source of Self-Regard – Toni Morrison

  • I haven’t read this one yet, but it is definitely on my most anticipated reads this winter. One of the most celebrated and talented writers, Toni Morrison, gives us a non-fiction collection of her writings, essays, speeches, and meditations. The themes of her writing include society, culture, and art. This book is compiled of four decades of writings from various points in her life, and I cannot wait to get my hands on this book.

Aquarius Heading link

american like me

American Like Me – America Ferrera

  • This book is compiled of personal stories from people of different cultures and racial identities, coming together to share their experiences and perspectives on the American narrative. Each of the entries provides something different to the work as a whole. Ranging from humorous stories to heart-wrenching tales, this book can be so relatable to different cultures. It also shows how America is perceived differently throughout these cultures. I would like to add that the cover of this book is absolutely stunning and looks great on your bookshelf.

Pisces Heading link

99 percent mine

99 Percent Mine – Sally Thorne

  • We are going to end this list with another rom-com for the most emotional of the zodiacs: Pisces. This is an absolutely hilarious story about a woman who has had her eyes set on one man and one man only, only he is off-limits since he is her brother’s best friend. However, once she finally has her shot at pursuing him, sparks begin to fly and the love story begins. This novel is a must-read for anyone looking for a feel-good, romantic comedy book.
