Wavves Announces 10th Anniversary King of the Beach Tour
Emblematic surf-rockers go back to their roots with revival tour

Wavves is a rock trio based in San Diego, California comprised of members Stephen Pope, Alex Gates, and Nathan Williams. Their sound could perhaps best be described as heavy-pop while sporting an unmistakable and rich undercurrent of surf-punk. Although some of their earlier material, like their 2008 self-titled album, has exhibited a more experimental side of their work, they’ve managed to really define themselves within their genre and do a great job developing their trademarked sound over the years.
In October of 2009 frontman Nathan Williams opened his own record label, Ghostramp, after being signed to and releasing several records with various labels, and ultimately feeling as though he could do a better job than the larger labels he had worked with. The label now houses acts like Cloud Nothings, The Birth Defects, and Upheaval.
Spring 2020 Tour Heading link
King of the Beach was released on Fat Possum Records in August of 2010 and features some of the band’s most popular and characteristic work. Including fan-favorites like “Green Eyes,” “Post Acid,” and of course the title track, “King of the Beach,” this is without a doubt the quintessential Wavves album. It’s fun and energetic tracks work well in a setlist and can guarantee some exhausted bouncers.
The band announced earlier this month that after touring Australia this spring they’ll be hitting the good ol’ U.S.A with their King of the Beach revival tour. They’ve stated that they will be performing the album in full, and the tour even features a night at Chicago’s own Lincoln Hall, the 7th of May, 2020.
