Ashley Banks from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Heading link

Ashley Banks, played by Tatyana Ali, started out as a young carefree girl who respected her parents and loved her siblings. Many loved her for her curiosity and quick-witted remarks. Did I mention she could sing? As she entered her teen years and enrolled into high school, her style and attitude grew with her. She wore many stylish outfits like knitted sweaters with suspenders, jean jackets with boyfriend jeans, and occasionally she paired long stockings with her skirts or dresses. Most may have overlooked Ashley for Hillary, her older sister, but Ashley Banks is who I admired the most.

Whitley Gilbert from A Different World Heading link

Southern belle Whitley Gilbert was played by the famous Jasmine Guy. This show was essential in many homes during its run. It made younger audiences excited to attend college and fall in love. Whitley was the spoiled, beauty queen among all of her friends. What I loved most was her relationship with her boyfriend, Dwayne, and her chic style. Whitley sported only the finest of designer brands and made it clear that pink was certainly her color. She reminded younger girls to be proud of their heritage and to never settle for less.

Penny Proud from The Proud Family Heading link

Kyla Pratt played Penny Proud in this cartoon sitcom. What I loved most about Penny was that she gained all of her friendships and accomplishments just by being herself. Although she wore the same Fuchsia cardigan and skirt in every episode, there were times when she changed it up during TV specials and movies. Penny was admired by most and played a very important role as a big sister, daughter, and friend. I personally wanted to be her, because it seemed that she lived such a cool life when she wasn’t being embarrassed by her father.
