Best Christmas Music Made By Women

an array of cookies decorated as different Christmas onrmanents

Alright my fellow Chicagoans the first snow has fallen, the Uggs have been taken out, and it's finally the perfect weather to drink hot chocolate in. Welcome to winter. And with winter comes Christmas.

"Hold on. Christmas?! Thanksgiving hasn't even passed yet?!" is what you might say, however, with this weather and the history behind Thanksgiving, I think that it's safe to say that we can skip that holiday all together and go straight to Christmas. Besides, 93.9 lite FM is already playing Christmas music so it should be okay if you listen to some Christmas music.

Despite actually being Jewish, I genuinely enjoy listening to Christmas music. I find that it often reminds me of moments of me and my friends and family together in one place, and happy. Some people might not feel that way about Christmas or The Holiday Season in general, but that's okay. That's why we have music to get us through those times. This specific selection of music however, happens to have a particular theme, which is Christmas. Below is a list of the best Christmas music made by women, whether they be songs, EP's, or full length albums. Happy reading and happy Christmas! :-)

Merry Christmas Darling by Christina Perri Heading link

“Merry Christmas Darling” is actually by the Carpenters, but Christina Perri makes it her own. Not just by having all of the letters in lowercase, but also by singing the song in the melancholic tone that Perri is known for.

8 Days of Christmas EP by Destiny's Child Heading link

When someone asks me what my favorite Destiny’s Child album is, I always start off by saying that it’s probably their most underrated piece of work. They pester and pester me, and then I finally say it; their best album is their Christmas one. It gave us original Christmas music written by BeyoncĂ© herself, like the title track “8 Days of Christmas” and “Winter Paradise”. What isn’t there to love?

Make It To Christmas by Alessia Cara Heading link

An original track by Alessia Cara, “Make It To Christmas” invokes the warm feelings you get when you sit around the fire around the holidays. That is, until you actually hear the lyrics, where Cara begs her significant other to stay with her at least until Christmas. Even though the lyrics are so sad, the instrumental is so upbeat and warm that you feel a weird sort of happiness listening to the song.

Christmas and Chill EP by Ariana Grande Heading link

Ariana Grande actually has a lot of Christmas music out. What’s unique about Grande’s take on Christmas music though is that a majority of it consists of original music and lyrics by her. And not only does she have this EP, she even has another holiday themed EP titled “Christmas Kisses”. We also can’t forget the classic “Santa Tell Me”, written by Grande alongside with frequent collaborators Ilya Salmanzadeh and Savan Kotecha.

All I Want For Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey Heading link

You didn’t think that I would forget to include the queen of Christmas Ms. Mariah Carey on this list, did you?! Absolutely not. Not on this blog. What is probably the most iconic Christmas song of all time, “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is unique in the fact that it has literally charted every year since its initial release in 1994. In December 2017, the craze for the song was so astronomical that it reached the number 9 slot on the Billboard Hot 100, and it was the first holiday themed song since 2000 to do so. The song is so well-known and iconic that Carey has since been dubbed the “Queen of Christmas” because of it. When you listen to this song, you too will know that that title is very much well deserved.
